“ We build minimalistic high-end tiny houses for a more sustainable way of living in Australia.”
Bijou Homes
Welcome to Bijou Homes
Most tiny homes focus on the TINY part – boasting how they’ve combined a staircase with a bookcase or can offer you a claustrophobia-inducing bed loft or closet-sized bathroom. But at Bijou, we understand that this is also your HOME
– a place to be cherished, and where you can still be yourself, not a truncated version.
Where you can wake up and admire the view (yes, while sitting up fully!) and where you can relax or entertain in spaces that would feel at home in, well, ANY home.
It’s all about minimalist design and maximum space – with our unique two-trailer single-level floor plan that guarantees comfort and a wow factor, inside and out.
Crafted right here in Australia, a Bijou Home also gives you peace of mind
– with a passionate team that combines decades of engineering expertise with customer service and a proven record in sustainable design.
We invite you to step back and take in the small picture today!

Frequently Asked Questions
In this context, a THOW (tiny home on wheels) is a home that is built on a trailer to enable it to meet certain dwelling requirements. As per Australian law, it typically has a maximum height of 4.3m, length of 6m and a width of 2.5m. Oh, and it cannot weigh more than 4.5 tonnes. Bijou Homes meet all these requirements.
For many, the benefits are mindful in nature – such as reducing clutter and living a more minimalist lifestyle. For others, it’s a desire to live off the grid – or tread lightly on it for less impact on the environment. There are obvious cost savings of course (rent, consumables etc) plus also a sense of adventure, with the possibility of making any place your home. Everyone has a different reason!
Ahhh, the million dollar question! (Thankfully, it’s a LOT less than that.) This can be a ‘how long is a piece of string’ situation as our standard model allows plenty of customisation to suit your needs. But as a ballpark figure, most Bijou buyers budget for around $189,000 as a guide.
Space! And a sense of luxury that is often sacrificed in the name of practicality. Rooms are big, with high raked ceilings. Natural light is abundant. Going to bed doesn’t require climbing a ladder into some loft – instead a big bedroom with stunning window views. In our opinion, it’s just a nicer place to call (tiny) home!
It’s a great idea! People absolutely love staying in tiny homes, where everything is self-contained and cleverly thought out. You’ll need to double check any local regulations regarding doing so, but if short-term rentals are allowed, be our guest! (Or rather, get your own guests!)
Absolutely! We’ll even take care of transporting it to your site once the build is complete (future movements are of course up to you!). It’s this transportability that allows you to place it on a site with fewer restrictions than other dwellings.
That wasn’t really a question, but yes, it sure is.
Well, you’ll want to ask your friend first! But from a zoning perspective, this is usually allowable. New laws are being created for the growing Tiny Home segment every year – and certain regulations may differ from place to place. We recommend checking with your local council!
Very perceptive! As many images and plans on this website will show, our unique and innovative ‘big blueprint, small footprint’ Bijou design allows two trailers to maximise your floor space while still meeting all the transportable requirements.
Great question. At launch, our classic Bijou model is being offered – full of customisable details inside and out. However we will be adding new models in the future – watch this (tiny) space!
The homes themselves are made out of sustainable and recyclable materials picked for durability and affordability, as well as many environmentally friendly materials used throughout. The most sustainable part of the process however is our single location, indoor purpose-built facility, allowing for minimal waste in resources through modular parts and maximum efficiency across the timeline.
